HomeFaith & SpiritualityWaking Up to a Life in Progress

I remember the moment when I woke up.

I was seven years old. I know this because my chronological age — the mind-boggling fact that I had physically existed for seven years already — passed through my mind in the very first moments after I woke up.

I was alone when it happened, playing in my room. It was just an ordinary day. I was in my ordinary place, doing my ordinary things. And suddenly I had the extraordinary sensation of having just dropped into my body. It was like my physical self had been on autopilot these seven years, living and growing and eating and sleeping and laughing and crying and learning, but without me in it. And then I arrived into this life already in progress.

I wonder what actually happened at that moment.

And I wonder if other people have had this experience.
