The All New Complete Book of Bicycling
In early 1983 I sent a very brief review of Eugene Sloane’s “All New Complete Book of Bicycling” to CoEvolution Quarterly. It was published in the Spring 1983 issue. On April 20 it was reprinted in CQ’s weekly column in the San Francisco Chronicle. I received $15 for the reprint.
The only reason this is worthy of note is that, as far as I can recall, it was the first time I was paid for something I had written.

Most bicycle freaks I know (including myself) recommend Eugene Sloane’s book as the best of its kind. Repair instructions are exceptionally clear and well-illustrated. Sloane’s unpretentious writing style is refreshing, too; the book is full of examples and anecdotes from his extensive personal experience.
