“Nones” on the Rise: 20% of Americans Have No Religious Affiliation
A new survey by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life finds that the number of Americans who do not identify with any religion is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. One-fifth of the U.S. public – and a third of adults under 30 – are religiously unaffiliated today, the highest percentages ever in Pew Research Center polling. However, two thirds of the unaffiliated adults describe themselves as religious or spiritual in some way.
An abundance of detailed statistics are available at the Pew Forum website, including correlations between religious affiliation and political affiliation.
